A mid-17th Century English antique needlework with rare subject matter.

The majority of needlework from this time was of a religious context so to find an item of "folk art" depicting 18th Century rural life is exceptionally rare.

Portraying a male and female figure in the centre with a basket and onion wine bottle placed upon the floor; a windmill and miller to the top right; animals including a dog, deer, hare, rabbits and snails to the bottom right; a milkmaid milking and cow to the bottom left and; top left, a number of simple cottages with a tree, sheep, bird and cow set within fields.

Condition - As per the images. There is age-related surface wear to the fabric and minor discolouration. There is thinning to the textile and losses to the top. Offered for sale in "attic found" condition, without a frame. This picture is charming in our opinion. A further condition report is available upon request.

Size: Width 49 cm x Height 61 cm (19 1/4" x 24")
