A large pair of antique brass cooking tongs.
19th Century in date and most probably Asian in origin. These tongs are similar to the "pakkad" tongs used to hold hot pans while stirring them over an open fire or moving them away from the same heat source.
Comprising of two flattened elongated brass shafts, each decorated at the tip with impressed starbursts and dots and joined by a single hand-made steel pivot. The opposite end terminates in a pair of shaped semi-circular hooks.
The tongs open and close by way of a "scissor action".
Provenance - Acquired directly from a property close to Dereham, Norfolk, England.
Condition - Good as per the images. The steel pivot continues to hold both pieces of brass firmly together ensuring a smooth "scissor action" when opened and closed. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
