A well carved classical alabaster head which most probably depicts the head of Alexander The Great.

Early 19th Century in date and sculpted for The Grand Tour collector.

His hair is portrayed in tight waves and ringlets. His head cocked slightly upwards and to the left.

Alexander III of Macedon, commonly known as Alexander the Great, was a king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon. He succeeded his father Philip II to the throne in 336 BC at the age of 20, and spent most of his ruling years conducting a lengthy military campaign throughout Western Asia and Egypt.

This sculpture is supported on a shaped alabaster stand.

Provenance: Acquired directly from a private Italian-based collection.

Condition - Good overall as per the images. There are some very minor age-related frits at the base of the stand but these do not detract from the piece overall, which still displays well. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.

Size - Height 39 cm x Width 14 cm x Depth 19 cm (15 1/3" x 5 1/2" x 7 1/2".
